Hera II: 25.10.2017 Vathi. Ithaca

Le beau temps est revenu et le vent est force 4 de l’est. Nous prenons notre temps, nous n’allons pas loin aujourd’hui. Jens a vu une longue planche jetée au bout du quai et va en scier un bout pour faire « le trône » sur le Zodiac. Nous partons à 10 h 30 et pour sortir de la baie nous avons le vent et les vagues bien en face. Les vagues ne sont pas grandes, à peu près 60 cm, mais assez pour que Hera II cabriole pas mal. Quand je vais ranger les cordes et les pare-battages devant, je dois bien me tenir. Le pont est plus exposé que sur Maja et il n’y a guère de points pour se tenir. Après le cap des trois moulins à vent, nous tournons plus vers le sud et avons le vent sur le côté. Nous mettons le foc et arrêtons le moteur. Hera II roule, mais cela ne nous change guère de notre Maja. Le compteur remarche et montre la vitesse, nous allons à peu près à 5 nœuds. C’est incroyable que les tiroirs ne tombent pas. Nous longeons la côte d’Ithaca et tournons ouest pour rentrer dans la baie de Vathi. Plusieurs voiliers en sortent, c’est bien cela nous fera de la place. Vathi est au fond d’une baie profonde qui fait un coude, c’est très bien protégé, et quand on y arrive, à midi, plus de vagues du tout, la mer est tout à fait plate. Le quai est immense et seulement deux voiliers y sont, un perpendiculaire au quai et l’autre le long du quai, comme on aime et nous nous mettons derrière lui. S'il n'avait pas été là, nous n'aurions pas eu l'idée de le faire, c'est de la chance. Après l’ankerdram, petite promenade en ville et visite d’une quincaillerie, Jens a des achats à faire, lunch au bateau et petit repos. Puis nous marchons tout autour de la baie pour aller à une petite plage que nous avons vue en arrivant. Baignade très agréable et retour par le même chemin. En rentrant, nous discutons avec une dame qui vit sur son bateau, elle a beaucoup navigué et va passer l’hiver ici. Elle et Jens parle chauffage et il lui conseille notre poêle Reflex. Jens trouve une petite cuillère, et c’est bien, il n’y a que 3 petites cuillères sur Hera II. En fin d’après-midi, de nombreux voiliers arrivent et le quai se remplit. Un se met au long du quai comme nous et tous les autre mettent une ancre devant et la poupe du bateau au quai. Je fais le blog, Jens bricole puis nous allons au restaurant manger une soupe de poisson. Le patron, lui non plus, n’a pas du tout confiance dans le gouvernement et pense qu’ils sont tous des voleurs. Il a lu dans un journal qu’un ministre possède 60 maisons ! Il nous dit aussi que l’été, il peut y avoir jusqu’à 300 bateaux de visiteurs dans le port.

The good weather is back and the wind is force 4 from the east. We are taking our time, we are not going far today. Jens saw a long board thrown at the end of the dock and saws a bit to make "the throne" on the dinghy. We leave at 10:30 am and to get out of the bay we have the wind and the waves right in front. The waves are not big, about 60 cm, but enough to make Hera II dance up and down. When I'm going to take away the ropes and the fenders in front, I have to hold on. The deck is more exposed than on Maja and there are hardly any points to hold on. After the cape of the three windmills, we turn more south and have the wind on the side. We put up the jib and stop the engine. Hera II is rolling, but we are used to that with our Maja. The speedometer is working again and shows the speed, we go at about 5 knots. It's amazing that the drawers in the kitchen don’t fall. We sail along the coast of Ithaca and turn west to enter Vathi Bay. Several sailboats are coming out, it's good it will make room for us. Vathi is at the bottom of a deep bay that makes a bend, it's very well protected, and when we get there, at noon, no more waves at all, the sea is flat. The dock is huge and only two sailboats are there, one perpendicular to it and the other along, as we like it and we get behind her. If she has not been there, we wouldn't have thought of doing it, good luck for us. After the ankerdram, a short walk in town and a visit to a hardware store, Jens has some shopping to do, lunch on the boat and a little rest. Then we walk all around the bay to go to a small beach that we saw when arriving. Very nice swimming and when we come back, we talk with a lady who is living on her boat, she has sailed a lot and will spend the winter here. She and Jens are talking about heating and he advises our Reflex stove. Jens finds a spoon there, and that's good, there are only 3 teaspoons on Hera II. At the end of the afternoon, many sailboats arrive and the quay fills up. One goes along the dock with us and all the others put an anchor in front of and the boat stern at the dock. I make the blog, Jens works a little and we go to a restaurant to eat a fish soup. The owner has no confidence in the government and thinks they are all thieves. He read in a newspaper that a minister owns 60 houses! He also tells us that in summer, there can be up to 300 yachts in the harbor.
