23.10.2017 Kioni. Ithaca

Lundi 23 octobre 2017

The neighbor, the catamaran "Polo" leaves but when the guy pulls up his anchor, he takes our chain too. Jens goes out, in his pajamas, and releases our anchor a bit, the guy pulls up a little our chain, passes a rope underneath, fixes this rope to a winch, and raises his anchor under our chain. It works, then Jens tightens our chain again. He goes to buy bread at the baker’s little blue car. A guy goes by, he's the waterman, he sells water for boats. Jens buys some, it's 6 € for 100 liters. We can take 130 l, that's a lot, and yet we are careful with the water. I didn’t take a photo because I was washing myself and later I didn’t think about it. The guy, about thirty, is pleasant and we invite him to drink a cup of tea. His mother lives on Ithaca, but himself lives in Calamata. We are talking about the situation in Greece, he recognizes that he doesn’t pay a lot of taxes, the least possible. We talk to him about Norway and he can’t believe that a government can be honest, for him it is obvious that all governments are thieves and corrupted. The wind has not yet risen. We go for a walk in the village, most houses are closed. We're just coming in when it starts to rain, a big downpour, but no wind. We are forced to close everything, the awning above the door leaks like a sieve. We go down, it's dark and we have to turn on the light. The rain stops and we can have lunch outside. All the other boats are gone, we are the only visitor in the harbor. Between lunch and coffee, we decide to move, to go along the small dock. No sooner said than done, no problem. We prefer to be parallel to a dock, we are more used to it. While we drink coffee at our new place, a yacht arrives. We go on walk number 2, and passing near this boat (Austrian), we see that they have a large shelland we stop to admire it. We go up the main road coming out of the village. Leaving the village, we pass a lady who doesn’t walk fast. Arriving at the top of the long uphill road, we find her sitting on a bench! I think someone took her on a car, but no, she tells us that we can climb stairs, it is much more direct and fast. We think she is Greek, but in fact she is Italian. I take a picture of an electric pole. In June 2015, this post made me think of a Christmas tree, all covered with a climbing plant with big red flowers. The climbing plant is no longer here and this pole is anonymous again. We go down the stairs and return at 5 pm. The wind is irregular, calm and then strong gusts. It's raining again and we're eating inside for the first time. As I finished the blog, I'm cooking. Hera II is not waterproof everywhere, and we discover two leaks. Jens repairs the one in the bathroom, it's the window that was twisted, but the other one, under the stairs, where we put the dishes to drain, it’s more difficult to fix. So we put a plastic bowl under it. At 9:30 pm, heavy gusts of wind, Jens adds a mooring line, but it does not last. Good evening quiet but the boat moves a little, a small swell enters the harbor.
